Ty is currently the Assistant Director of Bands at Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, TN. In addition to assisting with the Concert Bands, Marching Band and Pep Band, Ty is the director of the Jazz Ensemble and the first ever Oakland High School Latin Band. Prior to his duties at Oakland, Ty taught for two years at McGavock High School in Nashville, TN. While at McGavock, Ty taught or assisted with the Concert Bands, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Music Theory and Class Piano.

Ty received his Bachelor’s in Music Education and teacher certification in Instrumental Music from the School of Music at Middle Tennessee State University. While at MTSU, Ty performed with the Band of Blue, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, the “Blues Crusade” Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Salsa Band, Brass Choir, the “Insignificant Brass” Quintet and Trumpet Ensemble. Ty has been a member of the Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps. He also performs regularly with Skyline Drive (skylinedriveband.com), a Top 40 RnB Group. He is an advocate of music education while having memberships in MENC, MTSBOA, International Trumpet Guild, International Association of Jazz Educators and the Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity. Ty is currently the Tennessee Mid-State Jazz Chairperson.

Ty has worked with several high school groups throughout Middle Tennessee and Kentucky as a drill and music consultant, brass instructor and private lesson teacher. Such teaching groups include Oakland H.S., McGavock H.S., Mt. Pleasant H.S. and Hillwood H.S. of Middle Tennessee. Ty has also worked several years with Muhlenberg North High School in Greenville, KY.
