Shawn Harris is band director at The Mt. Pleasant Middle School of the Visual and Performing Arts. Along with teaching band, he also teaches guitar, keyboard, and general music. For 11 years Shawn was percussion instructor at John Overton High School in Nashville, TN. While at Overton the drum line and percussion ensemble received numerous awards throughout the mid-south. They were 8-time Winter Guard International finalists and in 1996 the indoor drum line was the WGI Scholastic “AA” World Champions.

Shawn received his Bachelor of Music degree from West Virginia University where he studied with Phil Faini, David Satterfield, Al Wrublesky, Adam Mason, Ellie Mannette and Paschal Younge. While at WVU Shawn was a member of the internationally acclaimed Percussion “90, the WVU Steel Drum Band, the African Drumming Ensemble, the Ragtime Marimba Ensemble, the Wind Symphony and the “Pride of West Virginia” marching band. He was also a winner of the 1993 WVU Young Artist competition. He received his Master of Arts degree from Middle Tennessee State University where he studied with Lalo Davila. Shawn also performs in the Island Wave Steel Drum Band in and around the Nashville area.

Shawn is a member of the Percussive Arts Society. Shawn uses Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets exclusively.
