Alexis Yatuzis-Derryberry is currently the music specialist at Siegel Middle School in Murfreesboro, TN. Alexis' teaching responsibilities include general music, choir, and drama club. General music is taught using the Orff-Schulwerk principles of hands-on learning. Having written and received a grant Alexis is excited to be able to add class guitar and world drumming to the music program. Alexis received her Bachelor's degree in Music Education and teaching certification in Instrumental Music and Vocal/General Music from the School of Music at Middle Tennessee State University. Alexis' primary instrument was percussion and she was a member of the MTSU Band of Blue, Wind Ensemble, Steel Drum Band, Percussion Ensembles, and Women's Chorale. While studying at MTSU Alexis toured Europe with The Sound of America, was a 1995 and 1996 member of the WGI Championship Winter Drum line Music City Mystique, 1999 member of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps, awarded first place at the 1999 Percussive Arts Society International College Marimba Competition, 2000 recipient of the Percussion Achievement award and the Linda T. Mitchell leadership award and scholarship. As an educator Alexis has worked
with many area marching bands, percussion ensembles, and private lesson
programs. Alexis also started a summer music program at a local day care
in Smyrna; TN. Alexis is currently pursuing certification in the Orff-Schulwerk
and Kolday levels. |
